Sausage Arugula Pizza
My husband was out of town last week, so I decided to make something I wouldn't normally do when he was home. Will prefers pizza with red sauce, and he doesn't love onions, but I am the polar opposite when it comes to toppings. I LOVE white sauce, and onions are one of my favorites...opposites attract! Sausage Arugula Pizza for the win. Enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
1 Pizza Dough, Homemade Pizza Dough or Store Bought (I used Trader Joe’s dough)
Shredded Italian Blend Cheese (to taste)
1 Cup Alfredo Sauce
½ Purple onion, peeled, halved, and sliced thin
½ lb. Ground Mild Italian Sausage
1 Cup Baby Arugula
INSTRUCTIONS
Cook Italian sausage until brown and cooked through, about 5 to 8 minutes. Drain; set aside.
In the same pan, cook until onions just begin to brown - about 5 minutes stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until onions are tender and caramelized, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove to a bowl; set aside.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Roll out pizza dough to a round stone or pan, use flour if needed. Once rolled out, top with a alfredo sauce, then add a thin layer of cheese.
Then top with sausage and almost all the onions. Sprinkle pizza evenly with cheese, and the remaining onions.
Bake for about 15 minutes or until cheese is a little brown and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and scatter arugula on top. Slice, Serve, and Enjoy!
