King's Home Derby Tablescape

This is the second year I’ve been given the opportunity to participate in the King’s Home Tablescapes Luncheon. Sadly, this year we won’t be gathering around lovely decorated tablescapes with lunch and fellowship. The luncheon will be virtual this year, which means more people are able to see the tables and in turn raise money for King’s Home. For over 46 years King’s Home has been home to hundreds of youth, women & kids seeking refuge, hope, and help from domestic violence, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and other difficult and impoverished conditions and circumstances.

I am very honored to design a tablescape for this cause. This year, we all created our own tablescapes at home. My theme for this year is Kentucky Derby. The original date for the luncheon was the week prior to the typical running of the Derby weekend, so I was inspired to create a playful derby style tablescape.

The Derby has always been something I’ve enjoyed and it became especially fun when I married into a Kentucky family. My husband was born in Louisville, so needless to say the Derby is like a Christmas Morning tradition to them. I rode horses most of my childhood, and showed Hunter Jumper for most of that time. The items you see on the table are ribbons from my shows and Breyer horses I collected when I was young. I layered in single blooms with julep cups for a floral twist, and spray painted little plastic horses to add pops of gold throughout the table. I honed in on brightness of spring to emulate the typical pops of color from hats you seen at Churchill Downs. Enjoy the photos below of my styled tablescape, and be sure to vote in the Virtual Tablescape Event Benefiting King’s Home April 27th through May 6th.

If you’d like to see my table from last year, it is linked here.
